Product Manager – Scientific Instrumentation

Location: Sussex 

Travel: 25%+ International travel

A market leading instrumentation organisation in the UK seeks an ambitious and dedicated Product Manager to ensure the business continues to meet the needs of their international customers. They are looking for an individual who will work with customers to continually identify product development opportunities and will be able to innovate to maintain their position as a market leader in their field. The role will require the individual to be highly visionary and will be responsible to setting the strategy for new products. They will own the new product and will work closely with engineering, sales and operational teams to ensure products are designed, manufactured and delivered to market on-time and ultimately will be responsible for their success.

Applications are sort for true industry experts in electron microscopy applications, sample prep and coating systems. You will need to have extensive hands on experience using a broad range of electron microscopy techniques. Experience of preparing unique or innovative samples would be desirable and being able to demonstrate troubleshooting skills in applications is essential.

In addition you will have strong competitor/market analysis skills and will be able to research products to identify new initiatives and gaps in the market for innovation. Being highly customer aware is critical as the individual will work closely with customers to understand their needs and be able to deliver solutions based on a needs analysis for real-problems. You will work closely with engineering so having a background in engineering or instrument design/development would be highly advantageous and previous marketing experience would be beneficial as the successful candidate will have full product life-cycle responsibilities. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and will be able to champion new designs with all internal stakeholders; train the sales team and provide detailed technical advice/support to customers.

Key skills

Proven product management/marketing experience 

Hands on experience with instrumentation such as electron microscopy, vacuum based instrumentation

Project management skills 

Full product life cycle management 

Knowledge of international markets preferred and a second language would be of benefit but not essential

Travel will be an integral part of this role with at least 25% travel, most of which will be international so several nights away from home at a time will be common.
