Our client are a friendly, family run business who develop a range of products for use within life science research. Within their product portfolio, they offer innovative solutions for jacketed reactors and associated synthetic organic equipment from research to pilot scale.

Our client is hiring a Senior Product Development Chemist to join their Research and Development team on a full-time and permanent basis. This role is mostly out of the lab, leading the development of new products.

 

The Opportunity

This opportunity would suit a highly-experienced organic chemistry expert who understands the synthetic and medicinal chemistry processes for drug discovery and process development. The purpose of this role is to lead the new product R&D function to ensure our client continue to develop innovative technologies in the field. Some product types you may help develop could include: jacketed vessels, automated reaction systems, rotary evaporators, pumps and temperature control systems.

As a Senior Product Development Chemist, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Offer technical and scientific expertise to the R&D team to enable the improvement and development of new products.
  • Have oversight of full product development lifecycle, ensuring timelines are met and product criteria meet customer needs.
  • Oversee the testing and evaluation of products, this may involve non-chemistry related lab work, but only a small percentage of the time.
  • Using your network and knowledge in drug discovery to keep up to date with the latest synthetic organic trends to incorporate them into new products, or product improvements.
  • Attending conferences + exhibitions and visiting customers.
  • Supporting IP and licencing activities.
  • Facilitate relevant partnerships and collaborations with external businesses.

 

Skills and Experience Needed

The ideal candidate will have the following:

 

  • BSc (or above) in Chemistry  or a related scientific field (essential – equivalent experience welcome)
  • Ideally 10+ years experience in pharmaceutical / drug discovery scientific or laboratory settings (essential - equivalent experience welcome). Must have recent experience in this sector (essential)
  • Must have a robust and proven knowledge of medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry and how it’s used within the pharmaceutical / drug discovery setting (essential)
  • Must have knowledge of scale-up and process development chemistry for the drug discovery process (essential)
  • Experience in developing products for use within organic chemistry settings (non-essential, but highly desired)
  • Knowledge of the product design, prototyping and testing process (essential)
  • Experience in forming partnerships and collaborations with research institutions, private companies and academic labs (essential)
  • Knowledge of CAD and other design software (desired)
  • Existing right to work in the UK without need of visa sponsorship now, or in the future (essential)

 

The Package

Our client is able to offer a competitive salary and benefits package, with a starting salary range between £50,000 and £70,000 depending on experience level and interview performance.
