About 

The company is a global organisation with UKAS-accredited laboratories specialising in contract analytical testing for the water, utilities, agrochemical and defence industries. Their Bedford site has state-of-the-art analytical facilities for environmental testing, capable of detecting extremely low levels of pollutants. They are hiring a Senior GC-MS Analytical Chemist to join their team. You will provide clients with effective solutions to stay in compliance with environmental quality standards (EQS) and maximum residue limits (MRLs). 

Responsibilities

• Daily operation of single and triple quadrupole GC-MS and other analytical instruments. 
• Supervise a team of GC analysts and extractors, ensuring correct preparation of samples for analysis. 
• Develop and validate new methods for GC-MS and other analytical tools. 
• Carry out maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instruments and methods as needed. 
• Conduct Non-Conforming Work investigations to remain in line with quality standards. 
• Deal with possible hazards, such as manual handling, using display screens and chemicals. 

Essential criteria

• BSc in Chemistry or related subject
• Must have solid experience and knowledge of GC-MS and GC-MS/MS.
• Must have experience in method development and validation for GC-MS. 
• Must have experience in maintaining and troubleshooting trace GC analysis. 
• Experience of working in a UKAS-accredited laboratory within environmental, soil and water testing.
• Be familiar with quality assurance procedures, such as ISO 17025.
• Previous experience as an extraction chemist and analyst. 
• Previous experience in managing a team. 

Work eligibility
